Best Previews of San Diego Comic-Con 2017

San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone and hoo-boy was it a good one! Hit the jump for the best of SDCC 2017.
For the uninitiated, SDCC is a darn near religious experience for film fans and geeks alike where all gather in holy worship of various entities, some named Marvel, DC, and Warner Brothers to name a few. The costumes are wild and probably cost more than I make in year ("cosplay" is the term here), but the real highlight is when all the major studios bring out panels of their upcoming big movies, replete with actors and filmmakers alike, much to the fans delight. In recent years studios have taken to debuting special footage and trailers not only to the fans in Hall H, but online as well for the commoner's viewing pleasure. Without further adieu, here are the best previews of SDCC 2017.

Stranger Things 2

The first "season" (really, it's more of a very long movie than a traditional season of television) of Stranger Things was my favorite thing I saw in 2016, and for good reason. It's a great show! It's essentially everything I love: a Spielbergian throwback to the 80's, a spooky setting, excellent John Carpenter-esque electronic music, and great characters you genuinely care about. While I was nervous about The Duffer Brothers cranking out Season 2 so fast, this trailer looks like they haven't missed a beat. TDB's have repeatedly said that Season 2 was always in their minds from the beginning of Season 1, so folks, the anticipation is real. And hey, the use of Thriller? Ingenious. Happy Halloween indeed! Thor: Ragnarok

Haters gonna hate, but I loved the first Thor movie. Kenneth Branagh brought a very regal feeling to Asgard and the would-be king, all the while showing a simple story of humility and sacrifice. While the second Thor is better left near the bottom of the Marvel eschelon and best remembered for Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd streaking at Stone Henge, the hiring of Taika Waititi to helm the third Thor has ratcheted my excitement through the roof. Never heard of Taika Waititi? Go watch "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" and report back. LOL hilarious and one of my favorite movies of the last few years. Not to mention the killer music, Jeff Goldblum being Jeff Goldblum, and Cate Blanchett as a Goddess of Death? Guys, this one's gonna be fun. See below for the trailer link.

Justice League

It's more cautious optimism than anything, but given the INSANELY good Wonder Woman (seriously, if you haven't seen it - well, I don't know you), I have to think that DC is finally on the up and up. Having learned their lessons from the dour and depressing Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice But We're Not Really Going To Fight Because Duh Superman Is A God And MARTHA! If DC came to their senses and let Marvel do their thing joking their way to the bank, DC would realize they can make movies that inspire. Tell me which Marvel movie left you feeling the way you felt after Wonder Woman and I'll buy you a Frosty. Also - did you hear the news? None other than Joss Whedon, director of Avengers 1&2, has been brought in to see this thing over the finish line. As Tony Stark would say, "We may not be able to save the world but we sure as heck can..."wait, wrong movie. See below for the trailer link.
